In 2014, the Lord called us to serve in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. We spent over a year working with orphaned and abandoned children, supporting children’s homes, assisting with foster care and starting an orphan prevention project. While serving in these different capacities, we knew God was calling us to more specifically focus on orphan prevention by supporting children and families before they were faced with the difficult decision to place their children in an orphanage, leaving them feeling abandoned.
In Honduras, 65% of the population live below the poverty level of $2 US dollars a day. 1 out of 3 persons (about 2 million) suffer from extreme hunger.
The Lord has given us a vision of reaching families for Him to keep children in the homes that He gave them through encouraging, supporting and partnering with churches, communities and families in Honduras.
To strengthen families and communities by cultivating physical and spiritual growth through nutrition, education, and discipleship. Each family and child we connect and serve with is an opportunity to share the Gospel and provide relational discipleship.
We are the Weed's. Joey, Kellie and Connor. Kellie and I married in 2009 and then had Connor a couple years later in 2011. A few months after Connor was born, we began to serve and grow in, what is now our home church, Connections Church Belmont. The Lord placed amazing leaders within this church to lead, guide and disciple us. Within 2 years of serving at Connections, we found ourselves serving in any and every way possible. In our hearts, we always felt like the Lord wanted more from us and that is what began our desire to serve in Honduras.
Prior to living in Honduras, we would spend any weekend we had available in the woods camping with friends and family. We love campfires, hiking and playing in creeks.
Since being here, we have fallen in love with the culture, the people and the simplicity of life. We've found that people are relational in just about every way possible. While working, it's not about an end goal, it's about spending time with those around you. Since we really enjoy spending time with others, we feel right into place. Not to mention the food here is amazing!!
